Fixing the Broken®
"Fixing the broken" is based on the visualization of one's healing process.
When going through struggles with mental health, one needs a lot of time and support to get better. This support can be from their surroundings, their friends, their loved ones, and other coping mechanisms. The sculpture represents the idea that when one is healing, it takes time, effort, and support.
The hands act as a foundation to attach a broken face back together. They are the anchors in this piece and symbolize several types of support one receives while healing. It is meant to vary for each viewer as every person has had a different form of aid or help throughout their lives.
The sculpture can resonate with a viewer who has healed or is currently healing as it can help them visualize the way their life went or is in the process of going back into place. This piece visualizes feeling "broken" when one is struggling with their mental health. At the same time, the viewer can see how multiple aspects of support are helping to essentially "piece themselves back together"
The broken faces around the sculpture represent people with a need for support too. When interacting with the faces and attempting to connect the pieces (as you cannot use the table), you will notice the need for help from at least one other person, bringing light to the importance of support when healing. Each face is broken differently as trauma affects everyone differently. The different cracks in each face show that the breaking point for everyone varies and some can be affected more by their trauma than others (thus some faces have more broken and even missing pieces)
-The visual and the interactive part of this connect as the visual also acts as a guide as to how to interact with the rest of the work-
